The founder of Cardano pointed out the risks of losing leadership of bitcoin due to quantum threats

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of the Cardano blockchain platform, expressed the opinion that bitcoin may lose its position as the leader of the digital asset market in the event of insufficient flexibility of network management mechanisms in the face of quantum threats. According to him, the process of making changes to the protocol of the first cryptocurrency is fraught with significant technical and organizational difficulties. This conservative architecture, which previously contributed to the creation of Ethereum, in modern conditions can become a risk factor for an asset with a market capitalization exceeding $ 1.3 trillion. The expert emphasized that maintaining bitcoin's dominant position is possible only if meaningful technological progress is ensured without compromising the fundamental principles of the network.

As an alternative approach, Hoskinson presented Cardano as a project developing the initial ideas of decentralized governance. He called the key advantage of this ecosystem the presence of formalized intra-chain management, which allows holders of ADA tokens to promptly vote for the necessary protocol changes. If vulnerabilities in cryptography are identified, such a mechanism will ensure automated and coordinated network migration. Currently, the blockchain is preparing for a large-scale upgrade of Ouroboros Leios, which, according to developers, will increase the system's bandwidth by 60 times. The Musashi Dojo testnet was launched in June, and deployment to the mainnet is scheduled for the end of 2026.

In parallel with discussions about protocol management, the industry is taking practical steps to neutralize future threats. Nine major organizations, including BlackRock, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Strategy, have initiated the creation of a bitcoin security consortium with an initial funding of $15 million. The funds will be used to support independent research and the development of post-quantum security standards, while participants note that computers capable of breaking current cryptography will appear no earlier than in a few years. Other leading networks, including the Ethereum Foundation, are implementing similar initiatives to form post-quantum security teams, which demonstrates the industry's systematic approach to long-term technological challenges.
