The limited internal space of gaming laptops leaves little room for effective cooling, so owners of such devices often experiment with replacing thermal paste and undervolting. However, one of the gamers found an extremely simple way to improve the situation. According to him, he managed to reduce the temperature of the processor by fifteen degrees Celsius, simply by changing the surface of the table on which the computer stood. While playing the resource-intensive Cyberpunk 2077, a user named MentalReserve235 noticed that the processor temperature on the wooden table was in the range of eighty to ninety degrees. Such indicators are not critical, but you can't call the chip cold either.
The gamer found that switching from a wooden table to a metal plate lowered the processor temperature to a range of seventy-five to eighty-three degrees. According to him, the metal surface always stays cooler and never heats up enough to burn your hands. Since the bottom of the laptop is powered by an air intake, the system draws in metal-cooled air before it is ejected through the side vents. The author of the advice separately warned against attempts to cool the metal surface with ice, as the resulting condensate can completely disable the expensive system.
The fact that metal conducts heat better than wood is not a scientific discovery, but most laptop owners have to use regular desks. In such cases, it is worth remembering that the raised position helps the gaming machines, so you can use special legs or stands for better airflow. For additional temperature reduction, experienced users recommend trying processor undervolting through the ThrottleStop program for Intel chips, as well as configuring the video card using the MSI Afterburner utility.
