Hong Kong opened the first shop run entirely by a human-like robot. The 24-hour self-service pavilion located in the Hung Hom area is operated by a robotic salesperson who can serve customers in multiple languages.
The system is endowed with a wide range of capabilities, from face and emotion recognition to autonomous movement of goods and physical interaction with buyers. The robot makes decisions in real time, meets with visitors, advises them on assortment and helps in product selection.
This pilot project is part of a government program to integrate AI technologies into everyday life in Hong Kong. The initiative demonstrates the city’s commitment to becoming a world leader in implementing robotics in retail and service industries.
