Renowned blockchain researcher ZachXBT has sharply criticized modern hardware cryptocurrencies. He stated that these devices are completely unsuitable for signing mission-critical transactions. The expert also does not recommend storing large amounts of digital assets on them. In his Telegram channel, he bluntly called such gadgets ordinary garbage. The researcher expressed particular dislike for the popular Ledger brand. In his opinion, users should not blindly trust such hardware solutions. Instead, ZachXBT offered a more reliable and convenient alternative. He advised using a separate iPhone smartphone exclusively for working with cryptocurrency. Such an isolated gadget can provide a much higher level of security. This solution allows you to fully control the software environment of the device.
The expert's main complaint concerns Ledger's software update policy. The Ledger Live app, now known as Ledger Wallet, receives frequent interface changes. ZachXBT believes that many of these updates are being introduced for no good reason. Moreover, they regularly disrupt the stable operation of the main functions of the wallet. This criticism was voiced against the background of real and large-scale attacks by intruders. In April of this year, scammers posted a fake Ledger Live app on the Apple App Store. In one week, this program helped to steal about nine and a half million dollars. More than fifty unsuspecting investors became victims of the phishing attack.
The fraud scheme turned out to be frighteningly simple and very effective. The affected users entered their secret phrases to restore access directly to the fake application. This instantly gave criminals full control over their crypto wallets. Among the stolen digital assets were Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron and XRP. It was only after massive complaints that Apple removed the malware from its store. This high-profile incident clearly demonstrates the vulnerability of even proven ecosystems. ZachXBT emphasizes that security does not depend on hardware, but on control over software. Investors should be extremely careful when choosing tools for storing funds. Any negligence can lead to the irretrievable loss of the entire capital.
