Brazil's Central Bank to Implement Crypto Threat Alert System

Brazil's Central Bank has completed development of a specialized alert system designed to protect the financial sector from cryptocurrency threats. The new tool was created in partnership with Hypernative, a company specializing in identifying and neutralizing risks associated with digital assets before they materialize. According to Valor Economico, the system has already successfully passed testing with the participation of several market players whose names are not disclosed for security reasons.

Regina Pedroso, Executive Director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association, announced that full-scale integration of the system will begin within the next two weeks. Once launched, financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges will receive prompt warnings about potential threats and share this information with their clients and partners. Discussions about the need for such a tool intensified last year when the Central Bank formed a dedicated working group to counter cyberattacks. Pedroso noted that the key challenge in investigating such incidents remains ensuring the traceability of funds at the moment they move from traditional financial channels into the cryptocurrency sector.

The need for a protective mechanism became evident following a large-scale incident in July 2025. At that time, cybercriminals exploited a vulnerability in the software of C&M, a company developing middleware solutions for financial institutions, and stole $180 million from the banking system. A significant portion of the stolen funds was laundered through conversion into Bitcoin and the USDT stablecoin, subsequently withdrawn via cryptocurrency exchanges. Roselo Lopes, CEO of payment company Smartpay, publicly criticized the absence of effective protective mechanisms that could have mitigated the consequences of that attack and prevented the further spread of criminal schemes.

The implementation of the alert system will mark an important step in strengthening the security of Brazil's financial market. The country's largest cryptocurrency platforms, Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin, have already confirmed their participation in the initiative and will be among the first companies to adopt the new tool. According to Regina Pedroso, the Central Bank has not only tested the system but also issued several methodological bulletins for market participants. Relevant associations must now adapt their internal processes to receive and promptly disseminate warnings among all interested parties.

The Brazilian regulator's initiative reflects a global trend toward strengthening coordination between traditional financial institutions and the cryptocurrency sector on cybersecurity matters. The creation of a unified early warning system will significantly reduce response times to emerging threats and minimize potential damage to clients and financial organizations.
