U.S. Government Wallets Transfer Over $100 Million in BTC and BNB

On Tuesday, more than $100 million in cryptocurrencies were transferred from addresses associated with the U.S. government. Specifically, 833.6 BTC worth approximately $71.6 million and 40,285 BNB amounting to $31.6 million were transferred. The bitcoins were directed to Coinbase Prime addresses, while the BNB ended up at an unmarked address after several transactions. There is no evidence of asset sales.

The transfers originated from wallets registered as funds confiscated in the Potapenko-Turogin and Bitfinex cases, with 568.7 BTC confiscated in connection with the Potapenko/Turogin case and 264.9 BTC resulting from the Bitfinex hack. The BNB came from assets seized from Alameda Research. As of today, the U.S. government holds about $27.5 billion in confiscated cryptocurrency and has not yet used taxpayer funds for new purchases.

Such transfers usually raise concerns about the potential sale of assets, but this has not been confirmed. "A transfer is not equal to a sale. According to a directive signed in March 2025, bitcoin confiscated by the government must be held in the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve," market commentator Jose Rossell noted in comments on X.
