
The team behind the TAC (TON Application Chain) blockchain project has confirmed the unauthorized withdrawal of digital assets worth approximately $7.5 million from one of the network's escrow accounts. According to an official statement from the developers, the attackers exploited a vulnerability discovered in the pre-compilation layer of the Cosmos EVM module. To contain the incident and prevent further movement of funds, the network was forcibly halted at block number 24,671,475.
During the technical investigation, project representatives determined that the attack resulted in the transfer of 2,985,651,403 native TAC tokens from one escrow account to another. The developers emphasized that no new, unaccounted-for tokens were minted during the incident, and that the attack exclusively affected TAC assets, while all other digital assets associated with the ecosystem remained secure. The project team is currently working with cryptocurrency exchanges to track the moved funds. All deposit and withdrawal operations, as well as internal transactions on the TAC network, have been fully frozen pending the investigation.
For context, TAC is a Layer-1 blockchain that serves as a bridge between the Ethereum, TON, and Telegram ecosystems. The network's architecture enables the deployment of Ethereum-compatible decentralized applications (dApps) while allowing users to interact with them directly within the Telegram interface. The native TAC token serves several key functions: it is used to pay network fees (gas), for staking mechanisms, and for participating in network governance through DAO proposal voting.
This incident is not isolated. The day before, a similar attack was recorded on the MANTRA Chain blockchain, which also utilized the Cosmos EVM module in its architecture. That network was also emergency-halted by its developers; however, the exact financial damage was not publicly disclosed by the MANTRA Chain project team. The Cosmos EVM module is a software solution that implements Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility within the Cosmos ecosystem, enabling smart contracts originally written for Ethereum to run on Cosmos-based networks.
