Visa and OpenAI announced a strategic partnership to create a secure payment infrastructure that allows AI agents to transact. Announced on 10 June at the Visa Payments Forum in San Francisco. As part of the collaboration, Visa’s payment capabilities will be integrated into OpenAI solutions, giving developers and vendors a simplified way to accept AI-initiated payments. using tokenized credentials and real-time fraud monitoring.

A key element of the new standard will be to maintain full control over the person: all transactions will be conducted strictly within the parameters set by the user, including cost limits, authorized vendor categories and required confirmations. The partnership is part of a broader Visa Intelligent Commerce initiative aimed at expanding secure payments into new digital environments, as well as collaborative development of Codex-based enterprise applications and automated workflows.

The leadership of both companies underscores the revolutionary nature of this move. Visa’s Director of Products and Strategy, Jack Forestell, has said that AI will transform trade more than the Internet and mobile technologies combined, and OpenAI spokesperson Marco Mahrus noted that agents will play an increasingly important role in financial matters. In fact, the alliance is forming a new industrial standard, where payment triggers an algorithm, but solely according to rules set by the person.
