Cryptocurrency market maker Wintermute plans to invest about one billion dollars in high-frequency trading and data center infrastructure for artificial intelligence. Evgeny Gaevoy, the company's co-founder and CEO, spoke in detail about these plans in an interview with Bloomberg. The implementation of this large-scale investment program is planned for the next five years. The company strives to actively diversify its business and enter traditional financial markets. Management is considering trading stocks, commodities, and various currencies. Wintermute will have to compete with companies that have been developing technologies for these markets for decades. Simply reducing the execution time of transactions will not be enough for successful competition. The company plans to use more complex quantitative models and significant computing power.
Wintermute will allocate funds for training and continuous further training of its own quantitative models. A significant part of the investment will go to data storage systems and modern network infrastructure. Gaevoy noted the company's plans to finance these expenses solely from retained earnings. The journalists recalled the receipt of five hundred and eighty-two million dollars in profit in the year two thousand twenty-one. This impressive financial result was achieved against the backdrop of an active bull market in cryptocurrencies. At the same time, the company did not disclose its financial results for subsequent years of operation in the market. Gaeva announced the profitability of the company in 2000 and the expectation of a similar result now. The head refused to disclose detailed financial indicators of the organization. Expansion into traditional markets is taking place against the background of a noticeable decrease in overall activity in the cryptocurrency sector.
The average daily trading volume of Wintermute has decreased from about fifteen to ten billion dollars. This indicator decreased from two thousand twenty-fifth to two thousand twenty-sixth year. The company considers traditional finance and cryptocurrencies as gradually converging markets. Gaeva identified two possible scenarios for the further development of the entire financial industry. The first option is to continue actively distributing cryptocurrencies among users. The second scenario would be their gradual integration with the traditional financial system. Previously, Wintermute successfully obtained a broker-dealer license in the United States. This license gives the company direct access to the American regulated financial market. Institutional players continue to actively expand their product lines and geographical presence. Cryptocurrency market makers are gradually turning into full-fledged technological financial companies.
