The social network X (formerly Twitter) has announced that it will stop accepting new applications for the advertising revenue sharing program, which will be completely closed after September 7, 2026. It is being replaced by a new initiative, the Original Content Rewards Program, aimed at rewarding authors who create unique content. The platform emphasizes that users who provide original ideas, expert opinions, reports, as well as their own creative material will receive financial incentives. Original content includes copyrighted texts, photographs, videos, memes, and illustrations. Monetization of other users' publications is allowed, but only if a meaningful comment is added, in-depth analysis or creative processing of the source materials. Simply overlaying text or minor captions on someone else's content is no longer considered a sufficient contribution to receive a reward.

To participate in the new program, authors must meet a number of strict criteria. The user must be over 18 years old and reside in a country where this feature is available. An active paid subscription of the Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business level is a prerequisite. In addition, the account must have at least 500 verified subscribers and gain at least 500,000 views in the home feed from verified users in the last 90 days. It is important to note that only unique impressions from users with a paid subscription are accepted into the total score. The authors are required to constantly maintain these indicators at the required level even after the application is approved in order to continue receiving payments. Participants in the previous income-sharing program will be forced to apply again starting on September 8, while new users can submit a request for participation now.

This change in the rules of monetization continues the trend towards stricter control over the quality of content and the origin of the audience on the social network. Earlier, in March 2026, X had already modified the revenue sharing program, focusing on engagement from the user's home region. Experts attribute this step to the platform's attempt to combat fake accounts and coordinate information campaigns. This decision followed information that many popular profiles that published materials on the current agenda were actually managed from abroad. The introduction of requirements for verified subscribers and views from paid users is designed to minimize the impact of bots and ensure that rewards are received exclusively by real content creators who make a significant contribution to the information space of the platform.
