The Zano project reported the implementation of a network fix and rollback to restore affected user balances after an inflation-related vulnerability. The rollback was carried out on September 28, which eliminated the vulnerability that allowed hackers to create an indefinite number of ZANO and fUSD tokens. The Zano team promised to fully restore the affected balances; however, the process may take some time while exchanges verify ZANO transactions.

The development team also noted that the volume and issuance of ZANO will remain unchanged, and the funding for the restoration will be sourced from the developers' fund, personal funds of team members, and supporters of the project. The lengthy restoration process includes updating users' mobile wallets, and third-party platforms and payment services will be able to access the new network by updating their nodes. Services will conduct an audit of transactions for a month before resuming withdrawals and deposits, which may significantly prolong the entire restoration process. As explained in the statement by the team, this measure is necessary to prevent the allocation of balances to incorrect users or their double counting.

Interestingly, the Zano vulnerability was discovered about a month after the implementation of Hard Fork 6 at the end of August, which introduced the inflation bug. This event is somewhat reminiscent of the inflation vulnerability in the Zcash Orchard pool in May. Zcash also faced similar issues earlier when another counterfeit production bug was discovered in 2018. In recent days, the price of ZANO has fallen by 36%, reaching a level of $5.5, which is a key support level, according to 2026 data. The question of whether the "bulls" will increase their activity during the network recovery remains open.
