OCC Calls on Local Banks to Become Issuers of Payment Stablecoins
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has urged local banks to enter the payment stablecoin market under the GENIUS Act rules, which will take effect in January. Banks can apply themselves or through a subsidiary. This call comes amid objections from banking associations against OCC's yield rules.
