AI and Stablecoins: New Collaboration Between KB Kookmin Card and SBI Holdings

South Korean KB Kookmin Card has signed a four-party agreement with Japan's SBI Holdings, cybersecurity company Everspin, and their joint venture SBI Everspin to test AI agent identity verification and explore stablecoin payments between the two countries. The agreement was signed on October 13.

The companies will explore payment services linking customers in Japan with merchants in South Korea. One of the proposed services is the use of digital assets, including stablecoins, for purchasing goods and services during Japanese tourists' trips. Separately, they will examine how payments can be processed through existing financial systems: settlements, cancellations, refunds, and anti-fraud measures. The commercial launch date and specific stablecoin have not been announced.

KB Kookmin Card will also test whether its KB Pay platform can support AI agents making payments on behalf of clients. The proposed system would confirm user consent and check whether the automated agent has permission to complete the transaction within set limits.

KYA Trust Gateway, a platform created by SBI Everspin in collaboration with Everspin, verifies the identity of AI agents, delegated authority, and authorization of financial transactions. Unlike conventional authentication, it establishes whether the agent has received permission from a specific individual, what services they have access to, and what limits are imposed on them. The first phase will test how AI agents from Japan authenticate when accessing South Korean services, followed by delegated authority and integration with KB Pay.
