Almost half of altcoins on Binance have once again fallen below the 200-day moving average: on October 18, their share reached 48.4% compared to less than 10% at the beginning of October.
The 90-day altcoin season index from Blockchaincenter remains neutral at 51. However, the 30-day altcoin month index has dropped to 29, approaching the threshold of 25, beyond which the Bitcoin season begins. At the end of September, it was above 75, indicating an altcoin season zone. The 90-day index holds better because its window still includes the growth of August and September.
The reversal in breadth followed the rally at the end of August. At that time, according to analyst Darkfost, 81% of Binance altcoins were trading below the 200-day average; by early October, the share had reduced to less than 10%, meaning about 9 out of 10 were in a confirmed uptrend. Darkfost estimated the inflow into altcoins over these two months at more than $814 billion. Over the past 15 days, more than $134 billion has flowed out of altcoins; he believes a significant part of the outflow was due to quick profit-taking.
Over 90 days, the leader of the top 50 was Bitway (BTW) with a growth of 2,993.3% – its token has only been trading since March 2, 2026. Next was Quant (QNT) with +199.3% and NEAR Protocol with +163.3% compared to Bitcoin's +25.9%. Seven coins from the top 50 more than doubled, while Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin by only 1.5 percentage points. Meanwhile, the altcoin season index has not reached the altcoin season zone for 388 days.
Bitcoin's dominance has grown to approximately 60.7%: this is its share in the total capitalization of the crypto market, and the increase in the indicator means that BTC is holding its value better than the rest. At the end of September, it was about 59%; in the second week of October, the indicator crossed 60% again and is now above the early September peak of around 60.4% – the highest minimum since the end of May.
According to CryptoQuant, the reserves of ERC-20 stablecoins on exchanges amount to $57.4 billion compared to nearly $78 billion in November 2025: fewer stablecoins remain on exchanges for new purchases. Darkfost notes that sentiments around altcoins change quickly, but for patient buyers, there is a pattern: "history shows that it is precisely when interest in altcoins and their dynamics are at a low, it is worth considering forming a position." Currently, the 30-day index is only 4 points above the Bitcoin season zone, and stablecoin reserves on exchanges continue to decline.
