Anthropic Adds Financial Assistant to Claude for Expense Analysis

On November 5, 2026, Anthropic introduced Personal Finance, a new feature of Claude that allows users to connect financial accounts and analyze their expenses using artificial intelligence.
The beta version is gradually becoming available to Pro, Max, and Ultra plan users in the US. The service operates in the browser, mobile apps, and the desktop version of Claude.
Personal Finance consolidates information from connected accounts and allows users to ask questions about personal finances in natural language. For example, a user can find out how much they spent in a month, what payments are due before the next paycheck, and how expenses have changed compared to previous periods.
The assistant categorizes transactions, identifies recurring charges, unexpected fees, and increases in regular payments. It can also calculate accrued interest, create spending charts, and calendars for upcoming payments.
How Claude accesses banking data
To connect accounts, Anthropic uses Plaid, a service for exchanging financial data between banks and applications.
Users go through authorization themselves and select the accounts from which they allow Claude to receive information. The AI assistant does not receive the bank password.
According to Anthropic, Personal Finance has read-only access. The service cannot transfer funds, make investment transactions, or independently manage users' money.
Claude receives information about the names and types of connected accounts, the last four digits of their numbers, balances, credit limits, and transaction history for up to 24 months.
For investment and credit accounts, access is mainly limited to balances and limits. The full composition of the investment portfolio and the terms of credit agreements are not read by the new feature.
The company also stated that conversations within the Personal Finance section are not used to train its models. Users can disconnect connected accounts, after which Claude will stop receiving new data from them.
However, information already included in conversations may be stored in chat history until deleted in accordance with Anthropic's data retention policies.
The developer warns that account balances may sometimes be updated with a delay, and AI calculations may contain errors. Important financial figures are recommended to be verified with bank statements.
Personal Finance is not intended to provide investment advice. According to Anthropic, the service also does not contain advertisements or paid recommendations for financial products.
Pompliano accused Anthropic of attempting to obtain Silvia's data
Following the announcement of Personal Finance, crypto investor Anthony Pompliano made accusations against Anthropic.
Pompliano is associated with the Silvia project, which is positioned as a personal financial director based on artificial intelligence. The service consolidates information about the user's bank accounts, investments, cryptocurrencies, and other assets.
According to the entrepreneur, Anthropic employees began actively contacting Silvia's engineers in April 2026. They allegedly explained their interest by the startup's growing popularity and its need for computing resources.
Pompliano claimed that Anthropic representatives tried to learn internal details about the product's development and its future plans.
He also mentioned meetings with Silvia employees, including a dinner, the expenses for which, according to the entrepreneur, were linked to Anthropic's head Dario Amodei.
Pompliano asserts that Silvia's engineers refused to disclose confidential information. A few days before the launch of Personal Finance, the team allegedly received a warning about a competing product being prepared.
The entrepreneur additionally reported that Silvia is reducing its dependence on models from major AI companies by using its own infrastructure. He estimates that using proprietary models and equipment allows for a reduction in computing costs by about 97% compared to using advanced third-party models.
There is currently no independent confirmation of this cost savings or the accusations against Anthropic.
The launch of Personal Finance expands Claude's presence in the consumer financial services segment. However, the further spread of the feature will depend on its availability, the reliability of banking data processing, and users' trust in artificial intelligence tools.
