Arch Lending to Double Bitcoin Reserve of Altgeld in Chicago

The American platform Arch Lending, which provides loans secured by digital assets and is part of the ChainFi structure, announced its support for the community-based Altgeld Bitcoin Reserve (ABR) in Chicago. The company has committed to matching the volume of bitcoins already in the reserve. In addition, Arch Lending will help launch educational initiatives on financial literacy and the basics of bitcoin for local residents. The ABR project was initiated in early 2025 by Chicagoan Tolbius Shepard. Its goal is to help people preserve and grow capital for passing on to future generations. On October 14, 2025, the Illinois House of Representatives recognized ABR as the first community-created and managed bitcoin reserve in the United States.

The security of the coins is ensured by a multi-signature system, and information about their quantity is open to everyone. Anyone can verify the reserves through the Bitcoin network. ABR rules prohibit speculative trading, lending, margin operations, and withdrawing bitcoins for personal purposes. Assets cannot be used as collateral or transferred for personal gain. Arch Lending emphasized that they participate in the project as a benefactor, not a lender. The company will not receive a share in the reserve, cannot demand a return of funds or claim income from them, and will not influence decisions on how to use the bitcoins.

ABR aims to create a model of a community bitcoin reserve that other communities can adopt. It is based on common principles of asset storage, transparency, financial education, and management. The organization is ready to accept new contributions from individuals and companies to replenish the reserve and develop educational programs. Thus, the initiative from Chicago could serve as an example for other cities and communities interested in collective bitcoin storage and citizen education. Arch Lending's participation in the project is non-commercial and does not imply any profit from the reserve.
