Startup Baselayer, officially Osiris Ratings Inc., raised $35 million in a Series A round on September 22, 2026, and introduced the Agentic Identity Suite – the first interoperable trust layer and fraud prevention platform for the agent economy. The company was founded in 2024 by CEO Jonathan Awad and CTO Timothy Hyde.
Baselayer's business verification tools are used by over 2,300 financial institutions, including one in five U.S. banks. The platform has verified over 10 million applications and prevented fraudulent transactions totaling more than $1 billion. Now the company is adapting this infrastructure for AI agents. Market demand confirms this: in June, Stripe reported that more than 70% of requests to its API come from AI agents. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Shopify have implemented protocols for agent commerce. However, traditional systems do not differentiate autonomous software acting on behalf of a company. "Agent commerce is evolving too quickly for the industry to repeat the fraud mistake," said Awad. "We help banks answer: 'Can I trust this agent, who do they represent, and what are they allowed to do?'"
The Agentic Identity Suite is built on the concept of 'Know Your Agent': it cryptographically tracks the agent's actions back to the platform and the company that authorized it, creating a verifiable chain of accountability. It includes the Model Context Protocol server and Agentic Search for data reconciliation with the tax service and secretary of state. Baselayer collaborates with FIDO Alliance, Legal Context Protocol, x402, Google, Cloudflare, Visa, and Mastercard. The round was led by M13 with participation from Torch Capital, Picus Ventures, and Afore Capital. "Identification will become one of the foundational infrastructure layers of the agent economy," said M13 managing partner Karl Alomar. "Jonathan and Timothy are not starting from scratch: they have a network of 2,300+ institutions and a working infrastructure."
