Anthropic announced that the Claude models – including Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5 – are now processing requests within India through Amazon Bedrock. Requests are processed on servers in the country, providing regulated institutions with data residency assurances for deploying Claude in the most sensitive tasks.
India is one of the largest markets for Claude. A constant request from Indian organizations has been the ability to run inference locally – a necessity for financial institutions, government bodies, and large enterprises with strict data processing standards. "In August, we committed to bringing Claude's inference to India, and we are fulfilling that promise. Starting today, clients can use Claude for critical tasks with request processing within the country," said Irina Goz, Managing Director of Anthropic in India. "This is a long-term commitment."
Sandeep Datta, President of AWS India and South Asia, noted that data residency determines whether AI remains in pilot phases or moves to full production: "Requests are processed on servers in India, allowing banks and government institutions to deploy AI at scale." Deployments are accompanied by auditing and access control. Early clients, including Reliance and CRED, have tested the solution in a closed preview.
