The market capitalization of the meme coin Cyberleek, launched by the person behind the GTA 6 leaks, plummeted from $7.8 million to $1.7 million. The crash occurred on October 12, although the peak was $7.8 million on October 11. GTA 6 fans are celebrating.
Cyberleek tied the release of new materials to the market capitalization of its own cryptocurrency. Thresholds for different types of leaks range from $5 million to $25 million. At the $30 million mark, Cyberleek promised to release the full game build, which is over 200 GB in size.
This week, some goals were achieved, and new videos appeared: one showing a fully nude Lucia, another featuring a close-up of the heroine in 4K resolution. Cyberleek threatened to publish one video every day if capitalization goals were met and launched a poll about the next gameplay video to spur meme coin purchases.
The $30 million mark is now practically unattainable, and even more modest thresholds for the next leaks are in question. It's possible that Cyberleek will ignore its own conditions and continue to publish videos. The main question is whether they have the GTA 6 build and if they will decide to release it: leaking a working version would be catastrophic for Rockstar and Take-Two, as it would trigger a wave of AI-based knockoffs and damage the game's success on PS5 and Xbox Series, whose release is scheduled for November 19.
The reaction from fans is gloating. One user said, "Anyone investing in this deserves to lose their money, lol. You're just asking to be scammed." Another commented, "God does exist after all." A third added, "Everyone who gave this idiot money deserved it. What did people expect?"
All last week, the community urged not to spend money on Cyberleek. Fans reminded that the insider had already withdrawn funds in August and will likely do so again before the release of GTA 6. An analysis of crypto transactions at the end of August showed that the leaker earned about $270,000 then.
Previously, Cyberleek threatened Rockstar and Take-Two with the publication of the full story campaign walkthrough if the companies did not release GTA 6 on physical discs and publicly apologize, and if the meme coin's capitalization reached $30 million. However, few believe in the fight for physical media: most consider the situation to be a typical crypto scam.
It is still unclear how the videos or the build left the walls of Rockstar, known for its strict security measures. In August, Rockstar called the leaks "heartbreaking" for the development team and "unfortunate" for fans, acknowledging that the intended gaming experience "may now suffer due to spoilers," but confirmed the release date of November 19.
