David Schwartz, the Emeritus CTO of Ripple, drew the community's attention to yet another scam scheme on the social network X. He published text GIF images under a fake post, highlighting the threat, which led to a wave of user complaints and the swift blocking of accounts impersonating the crypto wallet Xaman. The incident unfolded in the comments under posts from the hacked page of the cultural publication ‘NplusOneMag’, where scammers launched an aggressive advertising campaign for a fake airdrop.
Instead of going through lengthy corporate procedures and preparing official statements, one of the main architects of the XRP Ledger personally intervened in the discussion about the scammers and posted memes with captions: ‘I see fraud from a mile away’ and ‘This is a scam’. Schwartz's reaction became a call to action for the crypto community; users began to report to the platform's administration en masse, which helped completely block the fraudulent thread before unsuspecting investors could lose funds.
For Schwartz, this fight has long become routine. For several months, a pinned post on his profile warned: ‘Anyone claiming to be me on Instagram or Telegram is a scammer. Be careful, XRP family’. In the XRPL ecosystem, attacks on wallets have become systematic. Scammers use Hidden Buy Offers through spam campaigns with NFTs. Once a user confirms a transaction in search of a supposed bonus, a malicious transaction can completely drain their XRP balance. Security in the retail space still largely depends on the personal vigilance of asset holders and the quick response from senior company specialists.
