DTCC Launches Securities Tokenization with Participation from Major Wall Street Banks

On October 28, the American financial infrastructure company DTCC announced the launch of the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) for securities tokenization. The platform allows for the conversion of securities held in the DTC depository into digital form while preserving investor rights.
Access agreements to the service have been signed by 20 DTC participants, including JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and UBS. The infrastructure is integrated with the Canton Network blockchains and DTCC's private network based on Besu. Support for additional networks is planned for implementation in 2027.
According to DTCC, the total value of assets under DTC's custody exceeds $114 trillion. However, this amount does not reflect the volume of already tokenized securities. Actual usage figures for the new service have not yet been disclosed.
The launch of DTS could accelerate the transfer of rights to securities, simplify the use of assets as collateral, and enhance liquidity management efficiency. The project marks a shift in tokenization from isolated experiments to integration with traditional stock market infrastructure, although full settlement of transactions still depends on depository and payment systems.
