Franklin Templeton Registers Two Bitcoin ETFs That Reinvest Dividends in Crypto Assets

Franklin Templeton, one of the largest asset managers in the world with a capitalization of $1.8 trillion, has registered two ETFs that automatically reinvest dividends received from U.S. stocks into bitcoin-related assets. These funds are called Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FBEQ) and Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FIBT).

Unlike most spot Bitcoin ETFs, which focus on tracking the price of the leading cryptocurrency, the new ETFs offer a combination of exposure to the U.S. stock market with a strategy aimed at gradually accumulating bitcoin. The two funds will hold 95% of their portfolio in U.S. stocks, with the remaining 5% in bitcoin-related assets.

A significant part of the work of the new funds is the process of reinvesting dividends, also known as DRIP. Ordinary DRIPs automatically reinvest stock dividends to purchase new shares of the respective companies. In this case, Franklin Templeton funds will reinvest these dividends into bitcoin-related assets. Special and regular dividends will be reinvested in bitcoin on the next trading day after the dividend ex-date. The goal of the two funds is to gradually increase their share in bitcoin, allowing investors not to purchase cryptocurrency assets themselves.

These new products are another step in expanding cryptocurrency investment opportunities for Franklin Templeton. Currently, the company also offers the Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC), a product for direct investment in bitcoin, which has recorded a net inflow of about $335 million. However, the new funds represent a new way of integrating cryptocurrencies into traditional investment portfolios.
