Jack Henry and Google Cloud: New Partnership

Jack Henry, a financial technology provider serving over 7,200 banks and credit unions, is expanding its partnership with Google Cloud to implement tokenized deposits at local and regional financial institutions through the Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL).

Under the agreement, Jack Henry will become the first core banking technology provider to connect its systems to the GCUL—a managed distributed ledger for the tokenization and transfer of money and other assets. The platform provides real-time updates, 24/7 settlements, and programmable transactions.

The initiative aims to help smaller financial institutions respond to the growing demand for faster and more automated services. Local banks and credit unions face increasing competition from large banks and fintech companies, as customers expect more convenient digital payments and services. By integrating tokenized deposits into its ecosystem, Jack Henry aims to provide clients with access to new transaction scenarios, enhance digital offerings, and prepare for changing market demands.

According to the companies, the infrastructure will help institutions maintain deposit relationships by introducing new digital payments and value transfer services. Participants will receive instant payments at any time and automated processes across an expanding network of institutions, currencies, and asset classes. The integration is also designed to simplify adoption and reduce operational complexity, with the core ledger infrastructure provided by Google Cloud. Automated clearing and multilateral netting can increase capital efficiency by reducing the need for prefunded accounts and trapped liquidity, potentially allowing institutions to expand services with digital assets while maintaining access to core reserves.

"Tokenized deposits have the potential to change how money moves through the financial ecosystem. Our strategy is to help financial institutions embrace new technologies and access innovation through a reliable and scalable infrastructure. By expanding our work with Google Cloud and becoming the first core technology provider on the GCUL, we are helping local banks and credit unions explore new opportunities, building on the relationships, service, and expertise that have always set them apart," said Jack Henry's Chief Technology Officer Ben Metz.

"Financial innovation should be accessible to institutions of any size. Google Cloud Universal Ledger provides a secure and scalable foundation for programmable value exchange. Through our collaboration with Jack Henry, we are bringing advanced digital asset capabilities to local and regional financial institutions, helping them build on the trust established with their clients," added Google Cloud's Director of Web3 and Digital Assets James Tromans.
