Ledger has asked vendors and distributors of its devices in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to suspend sales and remove hardware wallets from shelves while investigating cases of counterfeiting.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Ledger stated that the request pertains to resellers in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
"To be clear: as the investigation continues, the only confirmed incidents remain limited to Southeast Asia. We have not confirmed any thefts related to devices purchased elsewhere," the company stated. "The investigation is ongoing to determine who counterfeited these devices and where in the supply chain this occurred."
The new request expands on Ledger's previous demand for the reseller CryptoBilis to cease sales and shipments. The investigation became public on October 9 following reports of cryptocurrency thefts linked to devices purchased through this reseller. Since then, users in other regions, including Europe, have reported alleged counterfeiting of devices bought from retailers.
"We have no indication that Ledger's infrastructure, systems, or services, as well as the direct sales channel, have been compromised," the company stated.
The company emphasizes that the investigation is ongoing, and it promises to share new information as it becomes available. While there are no confirmed cases outside Southeast Asia, reports from Europe are being checked. The situation is evolving, and no final conclusions about the scale of the counterfeiting or at what stage in the supply chain it occurred have been made yet.
