Ling Hai, Chief Financial Officer of Mastercard, presented a growth strategy focused on capital allocation during the Goldman Sachs conference on September 10, 2026. In his speech, he emphasized that Mastercard is adapting to changes in consumer behavior and new technologies, including artificial intelligence and stablecoins. "If we look at this in 10, 20 years, I still think you will have a mix of different types of commerce," – he noted, adding that an important element of the company's strategy is various customer interaction points, including physical and online commerce operations.
One of the growth directions for Mastercard is the modernization of sovereign payment systems. In the United Arab Emirates, the company is collaborating with the central bank to provide technology for local payment networks. This allows Mastercard to process nearly 100% of local debit transactions. This approach enables the company not only to meet national payment sovereignty requirements but also to leverage its expertise for expansion into other countries and regions.
Mastercard is also expanding its stablecoin and digital asset infrastructure following the acquisition of the BVNK platform in August 2026. This includes the implementation of stablecoin orchestration and white-label wallets in payment solutions. In addition, the expansion of additional services, such as fraud protection and analytics, currently accounts for about 40% of the company's total revenue. These steps are aimed at strengthening Mastercard's position as a leading player in the fintech market and meeting the growing demand for new financial products and services.
