Microsoft has lifted the ban on the word 'Microslop' on its official Copilot Discord server – six months after the moderation filter automatically blocked messages containing this sarcastic nickname, which the community coined for the company due to its intrusive integration of AI into Windows 11. At that time, the filter triggered instantly, and attempts to bypass it with variations like 'Microsl0p' led to account restrictions and subsequent blocking of parts of the server.
After six months, journalists from Windows Latest checked the same channel again and found that the word is freely used in the general chat, with over 200 mentions in recent weeks. The nickname emerged in late 2025 or early 2026 as a reaction to the aggressive promotion of Copilot throughout the system. Frustration reached such a scale that someone released a browser extension that automatically replaced 'Microsoft' with 'Microslop' on all web pages. Microsoft officially explained the Discord ban as a temporary anti-spam measure rather than a targeted fight against the nickname.
Dissatisfaction had been building long before the filter incident. In November 2025, Windows head Pavan Davuluri was forced to close comments under his post on X about turning the system into an 'agent OS' after a wave of negative reactions – users accused Microsoft of chasing AI trends while ignoring fundamental issues with Windows.
According to monitoring of communities on X, Reddit, and specialized forums, the word 'Microslop' is now heard noticeably less often, although criticism of Microsoft has not disappeared. The reason is likely a change in course: in a March statement on quality, Davuluri wrote that Microsoft would become 'more selective in how and where Copilot integrates into Windows, focusing on truly useful and thoughtful scenarios.'
