‘Spider-Man: New Day’ has set a new record for American box office. Over 47 days of screenings in North America, the film has grossed approximately $936.8 million, surpassing the results of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ The latter held the top spot for about ten years with a result of around $936 million. For Marvel, the new film has also become the highest-grossing project in the USA, overtaking ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which stopped at around $858 million.
However, in terms of global box office, ‘Spider-Man: New Day’ still lags behind ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The global gross of the latter stands at around $2.8 billion, while the new story about Peter Parker has brought in approximately $2.45 billion. The film's plot takes place four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ The character Jean Grey appears in the film, played by Sadie Sink. Her story is connected to the further development of the Marvel universe and upcoming projects about the X-Men.
Additional scenes after the credits also contain references to upcoming Marvel films, including ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ If the plot follows the storyline of the comic book of the same name, events may be linked to the planet Battleworld. Besides its commercial success, the film has received a notable response from the audience. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored 90% positive ratings from critics and 98% from viewers.
