The Second Cryptocurrency Outperformed Bitcoin in Growth Since Early Summer

Since the beginning of summer 2026, Ethereum has shown better dynamics compared to Bitcoin. Since early June, ETH has risen by 25%, while Bitcoin has increased by 5%. By September 14, in 14 weeks, Bitcoin only outperformed ETH in growth five times. The price of Ethereum remains above $2,500, while Bitcoin is consolidating around $77,000. In August, ETH gained over 33% compared to 23% for BTC.

This dynamic has formed a technical rebound after ten months of decline for ETH relative to BTC: from August 2025 to June 2026, Ethereum lost nearly 40%. The decline was accompanied by criticism of the network's economic model, including burning and staking. Vitalik Buterin has announced major changes and increasingly evaluates Bitcoin positively – previously, he criticized it for technological inefficiency.

Since the beginning of the year, BTC-ETFs have recorded an outflow of about $1.5 billion, while ETH-ETFs have seen an inflow of over $1 billion by mid-September. August was a key month for inflows, exceeding $3.5 billion, the highest since mid-2025. On the ETH/BTC chart, a "golden cross" formed in mid-August: the 50-day average crossed the 200-day average from below. On the Bitcoin chart, the "cross" appeared on September 8. BitMine CEO Tom Lee called ETH the most profitable macro asset of the quarter, outperforming the S&P 500, and noted that this could encourage institutional investors to increase their investments in cryptocurrencies.
