Talker Research Survey: 60% of Americans Trust AI in Health Matters

60% of Americans who turn to AI for health questions admitted they would trust the neural network even if its advice contradicts a doctor's opinion. This is evidenced by a survey by Talker Research commissioned by the telemedicine service MDLIVE by Evernorth.

The study involved 2,000 US residents: 1,000 millennial parents and the same number from the general sample. In each group, half of the respondents sought medical information using AI. The survey was conducted online from June 18 to July 6, 2026.

Every seventh participant said they trust chatbots as much as a doctor; among AI users, this response was given almost five times more often. 63% of neural network users have followed their medical advice at least once without consulting a specialist. On average, they asked AI nine health questions per week. The main advantages: 24/7 availability (37%), speed of response (31%), and the ability to reduce anxiety (30%).

58% of millennial parents using AI for medical issues followed advice on children's health without consulting a doctor. 80% of them would rely on neural networks for assessing minor symptoms, 71% for choosing the type of care, and the same percentage for medication recommendations.

78% of participants did not realize that the model's response depends on the formulation of the request, and 53% rewrote the question if they were not satisfied with the first result. According to Maggie Williams from MDLIVE, people turn to neural networks for confirmation of guesses or reassurance, while a doctor consistently inquires about symptoms and considers other causes of illness.

22% of regular users believe that the neural network takes into account their history, even if they did not provide it. Meanwhile, 76% did not share information about past illnesses, and 81% did not share personal information. 59% later realized the advice was not suitable, and 49% had already followed it. The main concerns are incorrect information (34%) and lack of specialist oversight (31%). 27% would trust AI more with a doctor's verification.
