Tesla Received $288 Million from Bitcoin Revaluation

On October 21, 2026, Tesla released its financial report for the third quarter, reporting an unrealized gain from the revaluation of Bitcoin amounting to $288 million before taxes. The Bitcoin portfolio volume remained unchanged at 11,509 BTC. The carrying value of the company's digital assets increased from $674 million to $962 million without selling Bitcoin. This occurred amidst a decline in the financial performance of its core business. Operating profit decreased by 56% year-on-year to $718 million, which impacted the operating margin, reducing it to 2.6% from 5.8% a year earlier.

Tesla's total revenue for the third quarter amounted to $28.05 billion, close to the forecast of $28.06 billion. Net income according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) was $787 million, down 43% compared to the previous year. Adjusted earnings per share reached $0.48, exceeding expectations of $0.45. The company's gross margin was also 19.6%. Free cash flow reached $1.53 billion with capital expenditures of $4.73 billion.

Separately, according to Forbes, on October 5, Elon Musk once again became a trillionaire following the rise in Tesla and SpaceX stocks: his fortune increased by $30.6 billion in one trading day, reaching approximately $1 trillion. Tesla's Bitcoin portfolio has been held since 2021; in the second quarter of 2022, the company sold about 75% of the portfolio, and since then, its volume has not changed significantly. Tesla also continues to show activity in other areas, such as car manufacturing and the energy business.
