Vitalik Buterin Unveils Ethereum Roadmap to 2030 Following Hegota Fork

Vitalik Buterin, one of the co-founders of Ethereum, outlined the network's development roadmap up to 2030 following the Hegota update, emphasizing the integration of advanced cryptographic solutions and decentralized computing. Buterin's plan involves changing the approach to transaction verification and computation processing within Ethereum. He anticipates that the decentralized network will become a "cryptographic world computer," processing more complex computations using zero-knowledge proofs by 2030.

He noted that the current verification in Ethereum operates similarly to traditional blockchains, where each network unit verifies received blocks. Buterin suggests that future verification will be based on the PeerDAS– a mechanism where participants will verify data samples, and the use of SNARKs will allow the network to confirm the correctness of a large volume of computations without needing to redo them. With the transition to more efficient consensus models from Proof-of-Stake, it is expected that block production will be carried out by multiple participants, enhancing the overall network efficiency. Key updates include FOCIL, EIP-8288, and Lean consensus, which aim for deeper integration of cryptographic proofs and distributed computing.

Additionally, Buterin mentioned the necessity of state management, as Ethereum will handle much larger volumes of information without requiring duplication of actions by all network participants. This will also change the approach to developing decentralized applications; developers will benefit from breaking computations into smaller parts. Buterin also stated that Hegota, scheduled for next year, will be the "last normal" Ethereum fork. After that, the long-term roadmap will include technologies like recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, and quantum-safe developments. Amid these updates, the price of Ethereum (ETH) at the time of writing was around $2,700, down 2.5% over the past 24 hours and 2% over the week. Meanwhile, the asset showed a nearly 5% increase over the past 14 days and an 8% rise over the past 30 days, but remains 34% below its value a year ago and approximately 47% below its all-time high of $4,950.
