Futures activity on Ethereum on the largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, has reached its highest level in nine months. Ethereum is trading above the key mark of $2,700, which has sparked significant excitement in the derivatives market after a period of noticeable decline in activity in previous months.
According to data from the crypto analytics platform CryptoQuant, open interest in Ethereum on Binance increased to $6.58 billion on September 21. In comparison, at the end of August, this figure was around $4.8 billion. Thus, the growth amounted to approximately 37% in less than a month. This means that Ethereum added about $1.78 billion to the total value of active futures contracts on the platform.
Open interest represents the total value of active futures and derivatives positions opened on a specific exchange. The 37% increase in this figure indicates that new positions worth nearly $2 billion are being opened in the Ethereum derivatives market on Binance. This reflects a rise in participation in the Ethereum ecosystem amid improving market sentiment towards the asset.
The resurgence of activity in Ethereum futures began in late August when open interest on the exchange was around $4.8 billion. In the preceding months, prolonged market volatility led to a noticeable decline in Ethereum futures activity on leading exchanges; however, the market then demonstrated a sharp turnaround.
