Aztec Labs has reintroduced the zk money private wallet on the Aztec Network, after its operation was discontinued in 2023. Since its initial launch in 2021, it has served more than 75,000 unique wallets and processed $100 million in transaction volume. The new wallet offers users the ability to self‑custody their funds. In a statement dated September 29, 2026, Aztec Labs noted that users can access the relaunched wallet via the zk money website or an interface running on their own device. A mobile app is planned for the future. At present, the website is available to users so they can choose their name tag.
According to the company’s statement, zk money hides wallet balances, payment amounts, and information about the parties to the transaction from the public ledger. Users control who can interact with their tag. The wallet replaces long Ethereum addresses with more convenient names, for example, bob zk money. Users can send or request funds by sharing a link, and the labels use Ethereum Name Service technology, which works wherever ENS CCIP is supported.
On the public Ethereum ledger, an address can reveal its balance and transaction history to anyone. Aztec Labs claims that zk money gives users the ability to make payments without revealing these details. “Blockchain transactions between two people should not mean that your financial history is published in full view of everyone,” said Joe Andrews, CEO of Aztec Labs. He described zk money as a wallet that allows users to maintain control over their financial history.
Users can also send funds to zk money labels directly from Ethereum exchangers. For a user in the US holding cryptocurrency on an exchange, this feature opens the way to a private wallet if the exchange supports sending the corresponding asset to the label. The announcement does not mention the participating exchangers and does not specify the supported assets.
The company reported that zk money uses self‑custodial wallets and immutable smart contracts, with no privileges for the administrator, who can move or freeze users’ funds. This is important for those who transfer assets from an exchanger’s account: after the transfer, control over the funds passes to the wallet holder. Aztec Labs has also described future connections with decentralized finance protocols on Ethereum, but no specific integration has been announced yet. Currently, the available payment methods are links, zk money tags, and transfers from Ethereum exchangers.
