Cryptocurrency exchange Binance will support the Base network upgrade and hard fork scheduled for September 30, 2026. As part of this upgrade, known as Cobalt, the B20 token standard will be improved, validity transactions will be added, dynamic node updates will be introduced, and TEE signatory registration will be moved to attestation verification on the blockchain. Due to the upgrade and hard fork, Binance will suspend deposits and withdrawals of tokens on the Base network at approximately 17:00 (UTC) on September 30, 2026. The network upgrade itself is expected to begin around 18:00 (UTC) on the same day. Trading of tokens on the Base network will not be affected, as Binance will ensure all technical requirements for users. Withdrawals and deposits of tokens on the Base network will resume once the upgraded network is deemed stable, without a separate announcement.
The Cobalt upgrade includes significant improvements, allowing users to pay transaction fees in B20, set multiplier updates, simplify transfer locks, and implement new Union and Intersect policies. The introduction of dynamic updates will enable nodes on Base to request contracts and apply changes in real-time. Additionally, in October 2026, the Denim upgrade will become available, introducing native blocks with a frequency of 200 ms and RPC timestamps with millisecond resolution.
Among the changes brought by the Cobalt upgrade is the ability for trusted registration of new TEE signatories using verified AWS Nitro attestations, enhancing security. Users will be able to manage their tokens on the platform more flexibly, creating additional opportunities for using the Base network and attracting new users. The Cobalt upgrade not only improves existing features but also lays the groundwork for future enhancements, including planned updates like Denim, which aim to elevate the network's performance to a new level. This transformation will be a step towards expanding the functionality of the Base network and allowing it to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving world of cryptocurrency technologies.
