BNB Chain Plans to Launch New High-Performance L1 Network in 2027

BNB Chain plans to create a new layer-one (L1) network that will complement the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) rather than replace it. This was reported by a user on X under the pseudonym KuiGas, who pointed out an update to the project's official documentation dated October 22, 2026. The new network will use BNB for fees, staking, and governance. The testnet launch is planned by the end of 2026, with the mainnet following in early 2027.
The name of the new network has not yet been determined. It will operate alongside BSC and interact with it through a native cross-chain bridge. Meanwhile, BSC will continue to support the existing ecosystem of decentralized finance and applications. Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) briefly commented on the initiative: "Multiple networks, one coin."
The new network will focus on speed
According to KuiGas, the main focus of the new L1 is on transaction performance. The stated parameters include block creation time of about 200 ms, preliminary transaction confirmation in approximately 20 ms, and transaction ordering in less than a second. These characteristics target scenarios where speed and low latency are crucial: on-chain trading, order books, and payments.
There are no plans to issue a native token for the new network. As with BSC, BNB will be used for fees, staking, and governance.
According to KuiGas, the development of a separate high-performance network could help BNB Chain strengthen its position in the on-chain financial infrastructure market. Among the possible reasons for this step, the post's author mentioned the growing popularity of decentralized perpetual contract exchanges (perp DEX).
According to KuiGas, an internal test network with several validators is already operational. However, the public testnet and mainnet have not yet been launched. The current plan is to launch the testnet by the end of 2026 and the main network in early 2027.
Previously, BNB Chain burned 1.65 million BNB worth approximately $1.2 billion.
