On September 30, 2026, DogeOS opened a public testnet for its EVM-compatible application layer for Dogecoin. The testnet allows developers to create and test applications before launching on the mainnet. Transaction fees on the testnet are charged in DOGE – the native coin of the Dogecoin network. The faucet dispenses 42,069 test DOGE per day.
Among the teams already building on DogeOS: Superposition Finance is developing a lending protocol, Derps – a perpetual exchange, USDoge – a collateral-backed stablecoin, Snag – a prediction market aggregator, PlaysOut – mini-games (about 15 games planned). The list also includes Barkswap (liquidity engine), Split Markets (non-liquidatable options), launchpads from Anoncoin and Starbase, as well as Doge Escape and DogeFundMe. The founder and CEO of DogeOS, Jordan Jefferson, noted: "Today marks the evolution of Dogecoin from an asset to an ecosystem." Timothy Stebbing, Director of the Dogecoin Foundation, added: "The integrity of the L1 ledger must remain untouched while we introduce utilities one level higher, and that’s what DogeOS means to me."
The current architecture of DogeOS combines proof requirements with validator signatures and a trusted execution environment, and also utilizes a permissioned sequencer. Dogecoin itself does not currently verify ZK proofs of the rollup. The team submitted a proposal in July 2025 to implement zero-knowledge proofs in the base layer of Dogecoin, but the change has not yet been realized – partly because Dogecoin lacks formal on-chain governance and any amendments require contributor review, discussion, auditing, and miner signaling. "We are focused on the public testnet, giving developers time to build and test applications while we validate the network. We will announce the mainnet launch timeline as we reach the next development milestones," said Jefferson. DogeOS grew out of the MyDoge wallet team. In May 2025, the project announced a $6.9 million round led by Polychain Capital for the development of the application layer.
