DTCC Launches Securities Tokenization with Participation from Major Wall Street Banks

On October 28, the American financial infrastructure company DTCC announced the launch of the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) for securities tokenization.

The platform allows the conversion of securities held in the DTC depository into digital form while preserving investors' rights. 20 DTC participants, including JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and UBS, have signed agreements to access the service. The infrastructure is integrated with the Canton Network blockchains and DTCC's private network based on Besu. Support for additional networks is planned for implementation in 2027. According to DTCC, the total value of assets under DTC's custody exceeds $114 trillion. However, this amount does not reflect the volume of already tokenized securities.

The actual usage metrics of the new service have not yet been disclosed. The launch of DTS could accelerate the transfer of rights to securities, simplify the use of assets as collateral, and improve liquidity management efficiency. The project marks the transition of tokenization from isolated experiments to integration with the traditional stock market infrastructure, although full settlement of transactions still depends on depository and payment systems.
