Kakao has set a revenue target of over 6 trillion won (approximately $4.3 billion) from its new KakaoAI business by 2030. Of this amount, around 1 trillion won is expected from artificial intelligence services. Kakao aims to showcase several AI agents for KakaoTalk at a developer conference scheduled for October and hopes to achieve 20 million active users per day, increasing the time users spend in the app by 50%.
Head of the investment strategy office at Kakao Group, Kim Do-yeon, stated that the planned revenue for KakaoAI will significantly exceed the 2.7 trillion won recorded by related businesses in 2025. The KakaoAI strategy involves integrating artificial intelligence functionality into KakaoTalk, which will enhance user service through advertising, commerce, and other services. The KakaoAI program includes the creation of a platform for AI agents that will be capable of performing and completing various services directly within the KakaoTalk messenger, providing additional convenient functionality for users.
Moreover, Kakao is developing a separate group membership program based on KakaoTalk, which will combine services in the areas of mobility, content, and commerce. Kim Do-yeon also emphasized that Kakao plans to split its operations into KakaoAI and KakaoX with an upcoming reorganization expected on January 1, 2027. KakaoX, in turn, aims for a revenue of 10 trillion won by 2030, covering the fields of fintech, content, and mobility. After the split, both companies will operate independently of each other, although service and contractual relationships may remain between them, ensuring further collaboration between the businesses even if they operate under different structures.
