Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Prices Reach $2,000

Prices for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, the second fastest card of the current generation, have reached $2,000 and above. This is as much as the RTX 5090 was priced on paper at launch—$1,999. Little remains of the original MSRP of $999: now the card costs 2–3 times more, and most of the supply online comes from third-party sellers.

Price Details

The cheapest RTX 5080 available from a reliable seller with delivery is the PNY for $1,999 at Best Buy. The Asus ROG Astral at Newegg is priced from $2,299.99, Gigabyte at MemoryC is $2,983.23. At Micro Center, you can pick up a Gigabyte for $1,979.99, but the price and availability depend on location. From a third-party seller on Amazon, the PNY is priced from $2,211.17: Empowered PC has 81% positive reviews over 12 months with 202 ratings. Stocks are limited: Best Buy has one or two cards available for pickup, with few delivery options.

Context

In August, the same PNY averaged around $1,500. Now, for the first time, the lower price boundary of the RTX 5080 has approached the starting price of the RTX 5090. The RTX 5090 itself, with an MSRP of $1,999, sells for thousands: last month, prices reached up to $9,500, and remaining stocks online up to $12,000.

Specifications and Reason

The RTX 5080 is built on the GB203 GPU and features 10,752 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7 memory. The reason for the price increase is AI: demand for high-performance GPUs has not decreased, but Nvidia's focus has shifted to the corporate segment. Memory manufacturers have also moved in that direction—DRAM capacities that produced chips for graphics cards have been allocated to high-margin HBM for AI data centers. This situation is not unique to the RTX 5080: prices for the entire RTX 50 line have been rising since launch.
