Santiment Recorded XRP MVRV Values Below One

The analytical platform Santiment has published data indicating that the annual MVRV ratio for XRP is 0.92. This means that investors who purchased the token over the past 12 months are, on average, in an unrealized loss of about 8%. Santiment considers such values historically more attractive for market entry, but emphasizes that this is an assessment of the holders' position, not a guarantee of price growth.

The calculation is based on the MVRV indicator, which compares the market value of a cryptocurrency with its realized value. Unlike regular capitalization, realized value takes into account the price at which tokens were last moved on the blockchain. This allows for an approximate estimation of the average acquisition price of assets by holders. When MVRV is above one, the considered group of investors is, on average, in profit. If the indicator is below one, unrealized losses prevail. For XRP, an annual MVRV of 0.92 means that the market value of assets is approximately 8% below their estimated acquisition cost.

According to Santiment's interpretation, such conditions may reduce the likelihood of mass profit-taking, as a significant portion of recent buyers do not yet have positive returns. In the crypto market, participant behavior often depends on whether they are in profit or loss. When most holders achieve significant profits, some investors start selling assets to lock in income, which can increase pressure on the price. The opposite situation occurs when many buyers are in loss: the potential sales volume for profit-taking decreases, as these investors have no profit. This is why low MVRV values are often seen as a sign of a more favorable risk-reward ratio. However, the mechanism has limitations. Loss-making positions do not exclude sales: investors may close them due to fears of further decline, liquidity needs, or changes in market expectations. Therefore, a decrease in MVRV does not necessarily mean that XRP has reached a price bottom.

Santiment's study also provides figures for other major assets. The lowest value among those mentioned was for Dogecoin, at 0.74, corresponding to an average unrealized loss of about 26% for the considered group of holders. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Chainlink have MVRV values approximately in the range of 0.97-1.04, which is closer to the breakeven level. Thus, XRP's indicator points to more noticeable unrealized losses for recent buyers compared to assets around the neutral level. However, the comparison does not mean that the cryptocurrency with the lowest MVRV will necessarily show the greatest growth.
