Shiba Inu (SHIB), one of the largest meme cryptocurrencies in the crypto space, is now available on the Solana network via Sunrise. This update allows access and trading of SHIB directly within the expansive decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem of Solana, without the need to leave the ecosystem to acquire the crypto token. Solana described Shiba Inu as "one of the largest crypto communities in the crypto industry" and noted how the project has expanded beyond its initial status as a meme cryptocurrency with a dog as its mascot. It's important to note that SHIB's debut on Solana does not mean it is leaving Ethereum. The original version of SHIB is an ERC-20 token. It also does not imply that Shibarium is moving to Solana. Sunrise simply brings a canonical representation of the asset to Solana for trading on the network's markets.
Sunrise, supported by Wormhole Labs, is an asset gateway designed to transfer assets from external ecosystems to Solana. This includes creating/recognizing a canonical Solana token, providing liquidity, and integrating with wallets, DEXs, and aggregators. This is important because otherwise, multiple unofficial versions of the same cryptocurrency could exist on the blockchain, leading to liquidity fragmentation.
On the other hand, Sunrise aims to create a canonical mint with issuer approval. In November 2025, when Sunrise first launched, one of the primary listings was the Monad MON token. Since then, the list has significantly expanded; for example, in September, Dogecoin appeared on Solana via Sunrise and Wormhole NTT. On September 18, PEPE also came to Solana, and according to a Solana tweet, the meme cryptocurrency that exists on Ethereum is now available on all Solana applications via Sunrise. As of now, SHIB has not shown a significant reaction to the news of its deployment on Solana, despite the expansion of capabilities within the ecosystem. At the time of publication, the meme cryptocurrency is trading at approximately $0.0000057. Nevertheless, the integration has significantly expanded SHIB's trading opportunities on the chain.
