Soneium Announces SONEIUM Token and Products for Tokenizing Entertainment Content

The Soneium network, developed by Sony Group in collaboration with Startale Group, announced plans on October 26 to launch the SONEIUM token and expand its work in tokenized entertainment rights. The token aims to connect creators, intellectual property owners, developers, fans, and investors within an ecosystem that already supports over 250 applications. The company has not disclosed the launch date, issuance volume, distribution, or token event parameters, confirming that the token has not yet been issued.

The plans focus on the Tokenized IP system, which represents intellectual property and its associated value on the blockchain. Creators will be able to issue IP tokens tied to artists, studios, or specific projects. Depending on the structure, they function as digital collectibles or as interchangeable assets within the project's economy. Some offerings may include automatic revenue distribution. The first project will be Moriusa, a character from the Tokyo company Super State Holdings: the initiative will support its promotion in merchandise, short animation, and licensing.

The network is also preparing an IP Vault for access to entertainment investments, such as music catalog funds, and an IP Bond, bonds backed by the entertainment business. With South Korean DayOneDream, the network is working on tokenizing K-pop and plans to bring concert royalties to Soneium through the WAVIST platform.

The Soneium Portal platform is being launched for sales and royalty distribution: first primary sales, then fan participation and payouts. The products rely on the Onchain IP Architecture system: the IP Registry stores records of works and rights, the IP Graph tracks relationships between originals, derivative works, and collaborations, and the IP Execution Layer processes licensing payments through smart contracts. Soneium intends to support the ERC-8432 standard, which will allow applications and AI agents to read licensing terms and verify agreements across different platforms. Existing copyright norms are maintained.

"We will help them finance their next works on a new scale, try new forms of expression, and find fresh ways to interact with fans," said Yuji Kumagai, head of Soneium Protocol. The project's documentation indicates that the future issuance of SONEIUM will remain subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements; the timing of the token event has not been specified.
