Vietnam to Install First Quantum Computer

The French company Quandela and Vietnamese Quanova announced a partnership to install the first quantum computer in Vietnam, the photonic system MosaiQ, at Quang Trung University (QTU) in Quy Nhon city, Gia Lai province. The project is supported by Nam A Bank, acting as a strategic investor.

The installation of MosaiQ will serve as the hardware foundation for the new quantum-RISE program (research, innovation, services, and entrepreneurship in the quantum field). The program includes training for faculty and the development of specialized courses, provision of software, creation of a Quantum Experience Center, and the launch of a Quantum Innovator Residency Program. Technological events and hackathons are also planned.

The agreement was signed in Paris during the Franco-Vietnamese Leaders Forum and marked the first Franco-Vietnamese collaboration in the field of quantum computing. Vo Hoang Hai, Deputy General Director of Nam A Bank, noted that the bank is investing in quantum technologies to develop Vietnam's high-tech potential through cooperation with French organizations. According to Quandela's CEO Niccolo Somaschi, Vietnam is becoming one of the most dynamic quantum ecosystems in Southeast Asia.

The MosaiQ system uses photons for computation and operates at room temperature, simplifying the infrastructure compared to superconducting quantum computers that require cryogenic cooling. Depending on the configuration, MosaiQ can contain between 6 and 12 qubits.

The installation timeline, exact system configuration, and project cost have not yet been disclosed.
