SpaceX Opposes Tokenization of Its Shares on OKXICE

The American aerospace company SpaceX has filed an objection against the listing of tokenized versions of its shares on the OKXICE platform. This information appeared in a public notice from the platform on November 2, 2026. Tesla, Amazon, and other major companies have taken a similar stance.
OKXICE is a joint project between the cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which owns the New York Stock Exchange. The platform plans to organize trading of tokenized American stocks using blockchain technology.
According to CoinDesk, by November 3, objections had been filed by 56 issuers, including 49 from the initial list of 62 companies selected by OKXICE for the launch of trading. Among them were also Netflix, SoFi Technologies, and Lam Research.
In September, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) introduced a five-year conditional exemption from the registration requirements for national stock exchanges for certain platforms dealing with tokenized stocks. At the same time, issuers were given the right to object to the listing of tokens issued by third parties within 30 calendar days after receiving the notification.
If a company files an objection within the established timeframe, the platform cannot allow the corresponding instrument to be traded under this regime. Thus, SpaceX's decision limits the listing of tokenized versions of its shares on OKXICE but does not prohibit their trading on other markets.
Tokenized SpaceX shares are already traded abroad
Despite the objection to OKXICE's plans, tokenized SpaceX shares have spread on foreign cryptocurrency platforms after the company's public listing in June 2026.
The brokerage platform Backpack Securities offered the SPCX token, while the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken introduced the SPCXx instrument through the xStocks service. Both products were developed with backing from regular SpaceX shares.
According to data provided by Cointelegraph, in June, the trading volume of SPCX from Backpack reached $1.08 billion, while SPCXx from Kraken amounted to $852 million. These figures pertain to different instruments and do not reflect SpaceX's market capitalization.
Tokenized stocks allow transactions with digital representations of traditional securities. Depending on the issuance conditions, they may provide economic interest in the change of stock value but do not always come with the full set of shareholder rights.
At the same time, for trading platforms operating under the new SEC exemption, there is a separate requirement: tokenized instruments must provide holders with the same rights as the corresponding regular shares.
Previously, Nasdaq warned about the risk of liquidity fragmentation between traditional and new trading platforms. In contrast, OKXICE co-chair Andrew Cuomo expects that as the market develops, more companies will agree to participate in such projects.
The launch date for OKXICE has not yet been announced. It is also unknown whether SpaceX and other issuers will reconsider their objections in the future.
